Six-Max Set to Crown New Champ
There are just 10 players left from a starting field of 1,587 in Event #11: $1,500 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold'em - smashing the 1,069 who entered this event last year - and today, they are ready to play down to a winner.
Mike Sowers is the chip leader to start today's final day with 1,413,000. Sowers cashed four times at the 2013 WSOP including a ninth-place finish in the $5k six-max event. He also finished sixth in the $10k six-max event in 2011, so it would be fair to say he has form in this event. Hell be desperate to get his hands on his first bracelet.
Justin Bonomo is second in the counts with 1,294,000. Bonomo has $7,513,864 in live tournament winnings including an impressive 25 cashes at WSOP events. Bonomo is also chasing his first bracelet - having finished runner-up three different times - including just last week in the Event #5: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball Championship.
Behind those two is Taylor Paur who is third in chips with 1,120,000. Paur does have a bracelet to his name, taking down the 2013 $1,000 Event #18 No-Limit Hold'em event, winning $340,260.
Another player to look out for is Heartland Poker Tour founder Todd Anderson, who is currently involved with Nolan Dalla on the TV show Poker Night in America. Anderson returns as the short stack with 222,000.
Germany has emerged as a growing force in world poker over the last few years and the final 10 in this event sees two of them. Sebastian Pauli and Frank Debus are trying to best the other eight U.S. players.
The next player to be eliminated is guaranteed $29,351. The winner will take home $449,980, along with the all-important WSOP gold bracelet.
Play resumes at level 22 with the blinds at 8,000/16,000 with a 2,000 ante.
