Joshua Martin Captures Gold Ring in Just His Fifth-Ever Tournament
The $1,700 Main Event is just one of a dozen gold ring events taking place at the Harrahs Cherokee stop. For over a week, players have been competing for WSOP Circuit hardware and big chunks of prize money.
In Event #7: $400 No-Limit Holdem, a tournament that drew a massive 1,667 entries and created a $550,110 prize pool, Joshua Martin of Yadkinville, North Carolina was playing in just his fifth-ever tournament when he came out on top to win $83,373 and his first gold ring.
It was an especially impressive victory considering Martin began the final table with the short stack of just 13 big blinds.
I have only played in four tournaments before this, he said. I have to mention my boy Warren Sheaves that won the Global last year, hes the one that really helped me put together my game plan and it worked.
It was a one and done for Martin, who had to head back home after the win with no plans to return for the rest of the series.
