PokerStars Brings 54-Tournament SCOOP to New Jersey; Over $1 Million Guaranteed
When PokerStars first announced its entry into the regulated market of New Jersey, one of the questions on peoples' minds was how major online PokerStars events would translate to such a relatively small market, or if they would exist at all.
PokerStars announced a definitive answer. They'll be bringing the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) back stateside with 27 events, each split into a Low and High buy-in for 54 tournaments total.
"It's awesome that [SCOOP is] coming to New Jersey so that players in the region can experience the exciting tournament structures and the thrill that comes with chasing a major tournament title and big prize money," said PokerStars Team Pro Chris Moneymaker in a press release. "I cant wait to play in the first NJSCOOP and I plan to stream most of my play live on Twitch. I would love to win a title in its debut year."
Traditionally, the SCOOP in the shared liquidity market has used a three-tiered buy-in system (Low, Medium, High) since its debut in 2009. It has traditionally been one of the premier events in online poker, with a rich history that includes tons of high profile winners.
The stateside series will begin Sunday, May 15 and last two weeks, ending May 30. Buy-ins range from $10 to $1,000 and guarantees on the events total more than $1 million. The Main Event kicks off May 29 and will be a two-day tournament with $50 (Low) and $500 (High) buy-ins that carry $30,000 and $200,000 guarantees, respectively. Check out the full schedule here.
Satellites are already running, and there's good reason to play as many events as possible. As with the shared liquidity markets' SCOOP, PokerStars will run a Player of the Series leaderboard promotion in which players who cash in events accumulate points. The player who piles up the most will win a spot on Team USA for the upcoming Americas Cup of Poker, held live at Resorts Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City June 24-25. He or she will also get $2,000 in PokerStars tournament dollars. The top 15 spots on the leaderboard will receive prizes, which you can view here.
