The Online Railbird Report: Scott "URnotINdanger2" Palmer Gets The Better Of Patrik Antonius
The action was lighter than usual at the Full Tilt Poker high-stakes tables the last few days; however, a few pots pots exceeded $200,000. In a duel between PokerNews Strategy Instructor Scott "URnotINdanger2" Palmer any Patrik Antonius, Palmer won three to Antonius' none.
Palmer Puts The Hurt On Antonius
Playing $500/$1,000 pot-limit hold'em, Antonius raised to $3,000 on the button and Palmer popped it to $9,000 from the big blind. Antonius called and the flop came down 6?5?3?. Palmer bet $12,000 and Antonius just called, leading to the 8? turn card. This time Palmer bet $28,000 and Antonius shoved for just greater than $111,000. A call from Palmer revealed K?K?, well ahead of Antonius' K?4?. Needing to catch a seven or deuce, Antonius found no help from two runs, losing the $264,000 pot.
The next biggest pot between the two came at $500/$1,000 pot-limit Omaha. The preflop action was the same as the hold'em hand and the flop fell 10?7?3?. Palmer fired $13,000 and upon seeing Antonius raise to $29,000, he shoved for $92,000. Antonius called and the hands were revealed:
Antonius: 10?10?9?5?
Palmer: A?K?9?8?
Antonius' top set was up against Palmer's flush and straight draws. Though he was about 3:2 to win, Antonius lost both runs. On the first run, Palmer turned a flush with the 2? and Antonius was not saved by the 6? river. On the second run, the 9? turn followed by the 6? river made another flush for Palmer and gave him the entire $202,000 pot.
The third pot also came at pot-limit Omaha. Antonius raised to $3,000 on the button and Palmer called, delivering a flop of A?6?3?. Palmer checked and Antonius bet $5,000, but was quickly raised to $28,000 by Palmer. Antonius three-bet to $60,000 and Palmer responded with a four-bet to $186,000. Antonius called all-in for about $37,000 with 10?8?3?3?, but was absolutely crushed by Palmer's A?A?J?6?. They ran it twice and no one-outer came for Antonius, losing the $201,000 pot.
Antonius and Cates Battle
After a down session against Palmer, Antonius mixed it up with Daniel "jungleman12" Cates in a mix of PLO and no-limit hold'em. The result? Cates escaped with a small profit. Playing $300/$600 PLO, Cates raised to $1,800 on the button and and Antonius reraised to $5,400. Cates called and the flop ran down 8?4?2?. Antonius fired $9,000, but Cates was quick to pop it to $23,400. The Q? hit the turn after Antonius' call and pot-sized bet of $57,600. Cates put the rest of his stack in, about $99,000, and Antonius called all-in for another $27,000 with A?8?7?5? for second pair and a gut-shot straight draw. Cates tabled K?K?10?7? for an overpair of kings and a flush draw. They ran it twice and Antonius failed to get there on both, seeing the $224,000 pot head Cates' way.
Antonius would get some back, though. He was on the button and raised to $1,800. Cates made it $5,400 to go from the big blind and Antonius called, bringing a flop of J?6?4?. Cates bet $7,200 and Antonius smooth-called, leading to the K? turn card. Another bet came from Cates, this time $21,600. Antonius called again and saw the 10? hit the river. Keeping the pressure up, Cates bet $58,200. Antonius called for the third consecutive street with A?K?9?4? for two pair. It was good because Cates only had one pair with A?A?8?6?. Antonius won the much needed $184,800 pot.
